House stuffs… it’s really picking up speed now

Steps turned out great. MUCH better than the example picture Tim had sent me. Wood railings for the steps and front porch will look good I am thinking.

New glasses and an evacuation for WHAT?

What a Monday.

At 7:45 a.m. I realized I had an eye appointment at 9. Joy. All these years… I’ve managed to escape having my eyes dilated. I was not so lucky this go around. BUT the doctor took pity on me and did the milder drops so I would be able to read when I got home. My vision barely got blurry. Got to love that. (Yes, you have to, no choice, sorry!)

So, got a new script. I’d say my old ones were a wee bit outdated judging by the change. I even had a horrified deer in the headlights look going on when the doctor said I was going to be needing bifocals sooner than later.  “Blah. Blah,”  I say to that! I picked out some new frames and will be seeing more clearly in a couple of weeks. Always a good thing when you work on the computer and read as much as I do, right?

At any rate, after 2 hours of that fun. I came home and worked for a bit. Just after 2 I got an email that Tori’s school had been evacuated due to the odor of smoke. We went through this when the school opened, so I didn’t think much of it.

Then the other mommy phone calls started. By the time I got the call Tori’s best friend was taken to the paramedics for ’smoke inhalation’ I was starting to maybe worry a bit. It was time for pickups and I was trying to figure out what the evacuation pick up plans were for the school.  Trying to find that via iPrecious while in the carpool line at TJ’s school wasn’t going well. (Thanks to Jeff and Gamma for trying to find info for me, btw.)

By the time I turned the corner to Tori’s school the sight of ALL those fire trucks and police cars, and a multi-force tactical response team truck… yeh… WOW. Luckily, I had Tori in the van before Jane pointed out that today was the anniversary of Columbine. I think I might have been a tad more worried had I realized that prior to having Tori safe and sound.

At any rate… the official time line is below.

Oh yeh, look what caused this mess:

2:01 p.m.
Fairhope Middle School has been evacuated because of a smell of smoke in the building.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause of the smoke, but Baldwin County Schools spokesperson Terry Wilhite tells News 5 that all students are safe. Wilhite says an air conditioning unit could be leaking freon.

Students will remain outside until fire officials give the all clear.

2:45 p.m.
- Students are still being kept outside as a precaution.
- School will be dismissed at its regular time.
- Parents picking up their children need to go to the west side of the campus.
- Bus riders will be moved to the Fairhope High School gym and will leave on their regular bus routes.
- Parents who wish to pick up their children early may do so.

4:07 p.m.
- Fire officials have given the all clear at Fairhope Middle School.
- Pepper spray, not smoke, caused the foul odor.
- Classes will resume tomorrow at its regularly scheduled time.

4:33 p.m.
- School officials believe a student brought the pepper spray. If they’re caught, the student could be expelled.

What a Monday. Oy.
